Archdiocese of Washington Lifts School Mask Mandate. DC’sCatholic School Children Still under Bowser’s Discriminatory Order by Timothy P. Carney at Washington Examiner. Catholic school children in the Maryland suburbs will be able to show their faces in school for the first time in 23 months.The Archdiocese of Washington has lifted its mask mandate, according to multiple sources who were on phone calls this morning with the archdiocese. Catholic schools in the District of Columbia, however, are still forced to require masks indefinitely by the order of Mayor Muriel Bowser, who lifted the mask mandate effective March 1 for adults in nightclubs or theaters, but not for children in public or private schools. Enrollment in US Catholic Schools Rebounds after Sharp Drop byLuis Andres Henao at AP News. Enrollment in Catholic schools in the United States rose 3.8% from the previous academic year, rebounding from a sharp drop caused by the coronavirus pandemic.... The National Catholic Educational Association said nationwide enrollment increased by 62,000 to about 1.68 million students, marking the first increase in two decades and the largest jump it has recorded in at least five decades. Minnesota Republicans Introduce School Transparency Bills by Jeremiah Poff at Washington Examiner. The set of five bills introduced in the Minnesota state Senate would enhance parental notification requirements for public schools regarding student activities and welfare and classroom instruction, as well as require schools to inform parents of their rights to review curriculum and instructional materials. The state lawmakers also introduced a bill that would establish education savings accounts, a popular school choice policy that allows parents to establish specialized government savings accounts to pay for school expenses, including tuition at private schools.
